it's been a while since the last time i did pink saturday. been helper-free since middle of april. after 11 years, finally it's just "us" - our family. all five of us. yes, i asked for it. even if that would mean sacrificing lots of "me" time. blogging and sewing especially. i wanted to live simply and teach the kids to be responsible, learn to do household chores, and be independent.

anyway, on to this week's event. my entry is a thumbelina - yes that's what she said she is - costume that i made for my little one for her schools halloween party.

i managed to whip this up, 3 hours before the 8:00 am party. my plan was to let her wear one of her floral dresses + wings. but... creativity and sewing mojo came in early in the morning and so this came about...

she was very happy and been thanking me endlessly on our way to the party. the smile on her face... priceless!

she merrily joined the games like... pinning the nose on pinocchio...

finding "under the sea" treasures...

and shooting apples inside the pumpkin...

thumbelina was very happy and filled her bucket with lots of treats from other parents. unfortunately she got sick after the party and mom did not allow her to enjoy the candies she got :(.

now, she wants a "purple dress with belt" for her. just like june's dress in little einstein.

never thought i'd use this again. the last time i used one was when i was still in grade school. my cousin encouraged me to get one. she trimmed down her abs after using it regularly. after giving birth to her 2nd child, she had a hard time getting back to shape. her SIL gave her a 3lb hula. she used it everyday for 10-30 mins. i saw the result. i had to try it! so off we went to the sports shop and bought this.

well, of course, it has to be PINK! :D

hacking and liking it

i tried hacking for the first time.

i bought a plain green tee for $2.00.

ripped the neckline and snipped the sleeves

hem was snipped too

and further snipped into several pieces

to make fabric flowers

and to play first with other designs...

i kinda liked this...

until night came...

finally did this with some tweaks to add a personal touch

and did this to all the hems

so here's me with my take...

my girls are hunting for eggs...

yay! they found one!

and they are very curious...

and did you notice? my little ones are wearing pink! how fun!}

seriously, they are real eggs from the hen inside.

we were supposed to have 10

but 2 were taken by the puppy

and the other 1 mysteriously disappeared. tsk, tsk...

so, we are waiting for the arrival of 7 chicks! yay!

the kids are thrilled! and so am i.:D

and, and... can i just brag a little?

the clothes on my little girl with pony tail were sewn by mama.

the pink top was made from a scrap fabric. really easy to make.

a rectangle fabric, elastic, and a strap and you are done!

shorts was made from the lower part of dad's pants that i cut short.

i used pink thread of course, wink ;o!

oops...i made a booboo out there!

i accidentally closed the pocket and had to rip! sigh...

oh! do you see my pink buddy?

needed to wrap something for a little girl.

i spotted these pink papers.

these are rejects from my brother's printing press.

i asked him to bring me some rejects

for the kiddos to doodle and cut.

but hey, it is pink !

i sure can use it to be creatively frugal.

so i taped 4 pieces together and wrapped the gift like this...

cut several circles and did this...

and this...

placed a tape at the back...

and voila!

i think that turned out pretty neat.

every time i tidy up kuya's closet i'd stare at this shirt.
been toying with the idea of making it into a dress for ate.
but i'm having second thoughts coz the print is not girly.

anyhoo, i still went on...

as always, my model is always happy for "mama made". :D
i think this is my first time to make a dress for her with sleeves.

wrapped 1/4 cup malagkit and 1/2 cup (or more) liquid mixture.

my first swap.
i was giddy and excited.
but it never came.
i figured... it was christmas season,
must have been lost in limbo
and landed onto somebody else's lap!

but ain't my partner the sweetest?
she sent a replacement!
it's not her fault,
but she wouldn't take NO for an answer.
she wrote... "I hope the recipients get it soon (one of these is a replacement and it had better get there this time!)"

well, i think the courier heard her, got scared, and delivered this to me...

i can't believe that i actually have something from Simplicity. i frequent this site for free tutes and sewing techniques. and now, i have in my hands, one of their products because of her generosity. AND... can you see that pink fabric?

it's actually this...

it's a quilted tote bag in pink+brown on one side and orange+yellow on the other side. so it's like you have 2 bags in 1. she made it in my favorite color combinations. my husband saw me taking a picture of the pink+brown side - "nice"! then he went out. when he came back, he saw me taking a picture of the orange+yellow side. - "huh?! 2 bags?". me? i'm just so happy that i have a pink quilted bag from my partner! because i still can't figure out how to make a quilt. yes, i cant. maybe i will, one day.

look around, take a peek inside my world...

before anything else, can i just say that i "frosted" this sliding french door, for a little less than php20.00? been meaning to have it frosted when i started accumulating "junks" inside the room. i wanted to hide the things inside from everyone who comes in. it's the first room that visitors would see and what an impression that would be! sometimes everything inside is spic and span but with just a snap of a finger, everything returns to its normal state - chaos! (is that normal for someone who crafts?) one time, i tacked a cloth there so nobody would be able to see what's inside. but i got tired of it and got rid of the "curtain". sometimes, i keep the window blinds closed so it would be dark inside and the mess would be hidden. but closing it makes the foyer gloomy. in my mind, the best solution is to frost the glass to keep the room "mysterious" without darkening the room. however, every time i go out, buying frosted film sheet always slips my mind.

so, while waiting for that permanent frost to happen, i could use some temporary frosting. one saturday, after breakfast, i went inside and saw this white japanese paper that came with other junks that my husband brought home. an idea flashed! i remembered when we visited my BIL's brother somewhere in kawasaki, a looong time ago, one of their french doors is made of white paper (i don't know what kind of paper) instead of glass. i was surprised and amazed! i can't remember anymore their reply when i asked why it's made of paper but i'm guessing now that maybe because of frequent minor quakes in the area. anyhoo, you'd probably guess what happened next...

thank you for spending a minute there. now, let's get on... that french door leads to my first favorite space in our house - the craft/study room. i think it's pretty obvious why i love this room. i can't remember anymore how many curtains, slip covers, other sewing projects, school projects, and kid's activities were done here. i can stay here the whole day doing something or even doing nothing! just recently, this room went online. another reason for me to stay inside :D. though sometimes, once i'm inside, instead of sitting in front of the pc to surf, something else, a project , or a paper work, would catch my eye and surfing would take a backseat. i wish i could show you what's inside but it's a mess right now. two little "kittens" went inside and wreaked havoc while the "cat" was not looking! maybe some other time, when my dream craft table and cubby holes storage are already in place - then it would be something to brag about. but since it's a mess right now, let me bring you to...

... my second favorite place.

because...

... this serves as an extension of my crafting mess!
... more than the living room, this is where you can find us for the most part of the day. not because we are always eating but because this seem to be more airy and cheerful, aside from it being the center part of the house
... this is where we sit to watch TV
... a door leads to the lanai where i have a pocket garden, and
... i love sewing covers for those dining chairs!

... if i want some peace and quiet, a quick break, i'd go up and laze around in our terrace. from there, i could see birds passing/flying by, my small front garden, our mini-vegetable garden and fruit trees, wild grass - nature!

this is where i jog (sometimes). i also love taking pictures of the sky/clouds from there, and sometimes fireworks too at night! the double rainbow and smiling moon were taken from there.

sometimes, when it is raining cats and dogs, you'll find my 2 boys there, taking a shower under the rain while playing catch, tag or water gun. they always have a blast everytime. this is also where we relax a bit after dinner, before going to bed... our little place of heaven under the sun (and moon :).

been meaning to sew a coaster. i can use thick scrap fabric or old thick clothes. then my sister sent a box full of old clothes. some of it were sent to the province, and some, well, i saved them, for future repurposing. two small sized corduroy pants were included in the saved items. i saved them with this in mind. when i saw it, i made a mental note to make one. it's just sooo cute!

okay, so i went ahead and cut 5x5 pieces. the upper portion was saved for chiko's shorts when she gets older :D.

then i made a pattern for the tweet. not quite like the chirpy pattern but still a bird. traced it on to the fabric and sew along.

i fell in love with the bird! it's chubby and cute, yes?

i proceeded making the project, used poly fiber batting to give it some body and to add thickness to the coaster.

my plan was to have a bird on one side only but i was stupid, and sewn a gap when it was already done. of course the other side was sewn too! grrrr! so i ended up sewing the bird again. i was quite pleased though that it gave an embossed look.
here's the other side.

i did not stop with the bird. i made a flower pattern. but because of excitement, (or stupidity, again?) i used ballpen instead of pencil to trace it onto the fabric. and i used a different thread color and a different stitch. it came thin, so naturally, the ballpen traces were evident.

hmmn... never mind those boo-boos. more coasters came along. another flower was requested by chiko and the car (that looked more like a pig! :D) was requested by kuya .notice the bird? the first patttern was lost by the little one. i made another one but could not quite duplicate the original so i ended up with a pregnant bird with tails!

i was able to make 6 pieces.

baby steps

... scissor
not quite 3, i'm a bit apprehensive to let her hold a scissor. but for quite a number of times, when she sees me holding a scissor, she'd run up to me, paper in hand and pretends to cut the paper with her fingers - "tsitsor, mommy". one time, i gave in. after a deep breath, i handed her a small tsitsor, more papers, sat down together and taught her how to use it. we both held the paper in one hand while her another hand maneuvers the tsitsor from the bottom going up, from right to left, until...success! a piece of paper! and i tell you, there's no stopping her!

she's cutting bits of papers in various random shapes. i'm trying to teach her how to cut papers by following a line or a shape but she's still impatient. so i let her be.

and she snipped her hair too! yikes!

i turned my back for a while and when i looked at her again, there were strands of hair on the table! goodness gracious! so far, after that hair incident, no accidents yet. hopefully none will come.

... sewing machine

when she's done "cutting", and sees me in front of the machine, she'd sit on my lap and touches everything she sees. she helped me do a project. she sewed with me, with both our hands guiding the fabric through the machine while sitting on my lap. I'd like to see the day when she steps her way to using that machine all by herself.

she even helped me stuff it.

i made a pink toadstool that quite resembles the designs in her notecards. i was inspired, my hand was itchin' to sew, so i made this...

i could not wait to buy a leather band, so i just crocheted something because i was so excited to see how it would come out.

here's the size...

[1 blue square=1 square inch]

yes, i also made that cute red toadstool. because of its cuteness, i'm thinking of making a magnet, applique, hair pin, cake topper, pin cushion, and who knows, maybe even a village for sweet gnomes! i wish :D.

it can be used as a cellphone charm

or a bag charm

oh! did you notice that tiny pink flower together with the two toadstools? i bought it few years ago. it is also a charm that can be used as a bracelet charm, purse or cellphone charm.

when she saw kuya's bed she went "mami, let's go fishing!" oh, we can do that baby. so, mami looked for a blue grocery bag, and some materials for our fishing trip (stick, magnet, string, papers, paper clips, pen, scissor). we're gonna make this an educational fishing trip. i made sure i drew different sizes in different colors with letters on one side. when everything's ready, she started fishing for a big fish, small fish, yellow fish, red fish, A fish, C fish, etc. she had loads of fun!

was pleasantly surprised when these laid before my eyes.

didn't expect i'll be getting these eye-candy that i've been admiring at her shop.

not to mention these "pieces of her"!

and this yummy choco for my kiddos.

from the bottom of my heart, thank you for bringing good cheer to me on that gloomy day. the text on the chocolate box said it well - truly, you are a purveyor of happiness. i may have sent many thanks to you thru ems, but really, words are not enough to describe how i felt when i received these loveliness.

It's Fiesta!

Really glad I stumbled upon this site. I was looking for a "pink" version of the Blue Monday and this site popped out. There were quite less than a hundred participants then. But look now, we've grown! I can't believe it has been a year of Pink Saturday fun already! Happy Birthday to PS and thank you and congratulations to Ms Bev for hosting this fun saturday meme.

Before we start the celebration, let's have some breakfast first...

This is currently in my living room. I liked it right away the moment I saw it. It looks serene and very relaxing. I, however requested the painter to add more flowers to add a happier tone. He painted more PINK orchids. :D Most of the time, the usual comment from guests would be - "that looks really inviting. perfect place for a picnic." Even I sometimes wish that we're actually there . Me sitting under the tree, reading a book or crocheting something, while the kids are running around. Bliss!

To match that painting, I have these on the other side of the wall.

They are not actually paintings but cross stitched pattern of house facades with PINK flowers. To me, they looked like paintings. I bought this set because I couldn't afford to buy facade/house paintings. Now, why is the other one sitting on the table, you may ask.

Well, actually there are four of them. I requested my cousin (who won in a country fair in Iowa for a cross stitch project she did) to help me. Turned out, she finished all three pieces in a flash! They were so pretty that I had them framed right away. I could not hang the third piece yet because the fourth piece, that was supposed to be my share is unfortunately still not yet framed until now. :(

Can you see specks of PINK flowers there?

This last piece is my first painting acquisition. Got it on installment when I was still a young employee, years before I got married. It now hangs perfectly in a wall leading to the kitchen.

i seldom use this shirt because it's big. the last time i used it most was when i was pregnant. see it's that big! i received 3 pieces of this kind in different colors from my former boss.

i wanted to update my wardrobe but i don't want to spend :D. so, the next best thing to do is to refashion existing unused shirts! i was inspired to recycle because of the nice comments about this. thanks guys.

i hope you won't get tired seeing my little girl here. what can i say, she's my little pink lady. :D the dress she's wearing is a recycled shirt that i repurposed for her. i'm sure you can see the pink lines there. but i want you to please focus on the pink waist band. why? because i crocheted it to add length to the dress and to put some style. i had a hard time sewing it onto the dress. the fabric tends to stretch. good thing mr ziggy zaggy is always reliable. he saved my day, er the dress. :D

i went inside the bedroom and saw this on the headboard of my little pink lady's bed! YIKES!

sure, dora is cute in her usual pink top and pink shoes. but this particular dora, that the little pink lady received last christmas, sometimes gives me the creeps! especially when she's there on top of the headboard - all alone!

i don't know. maybe it's because of the hair? the little pink lady has a love-hate relationship with this toy. :(

been tryin' to shed those unwanted fats i gained during my last pregnancy. need to do something to fit into my jeans again! so, what have i been doing to get rid of those flabs?

the moment i wake up (before i put on my make-up {heehee}- i love that song!), i prepare my alkaline fix - juice of 3 calamansi or half lemon in 1 liter of water (normal temp). i drink that while preparing my son's packed lunch, before taking coffee or any solid food.

i eat a really heavy breakfast. because i skip lunch. if i get hungry, that usually comes around 2 pm, i eat crackers or whatever we have for merienda. could be bread but usually root crops {sometimes, from the garden}, like, camote, cassava or gabi, or banana, and 1 cup of hot green tea or coffee.

at around 4-5pm, i play badminton with kuya for 30 mins or more. and as much as we can, we eat dinner before 6pm. i eat whatever is our viand with a half cup of rice. right after dinner, i drink a hot cup of ABS (bitter herbs) tea or lipton milk tea.

i'd like to believe that i'm getting positive results. because i was able to wear two of my smaller sized jeans already! yehey! but hey! i still need to fit into that ~~size 26~~ much smaller sized jeans! (harhar...dream on!)

and oh! about the calamansi rind - i blend it with lotsa water. and use it for any of the following:

*watering some of our potted plants
*washing the dishes by mixing it to the dishwashing liquid
*washing/rinsing my hair/body
*and this, my favorite - for my footspa! i do that at night while watching. then, because my feet tend to get dry most of the time, i apply petroleum jelly just before going to bed.

because my son did something good i promised my him we will make some craft. so i gathered empty boxes ( i'm such a junk freak!) and created our own cardboard version of Wall-E!

materials used:
1 big milk box for the body
1 big tootpaste box for the arms and hands
2 round fasteners for the arms
7 tissue tubes for the eyes/head, neck and feet
1 paper towel tube to hold the feet
masking tape and scotch tape

*the neck can be rotated because i placed a smaller tube {inside that neck} attached to the body

*the arms can be rotated because of the round fastener

*the feet, unfortunately, can't roll. i so wanted to make it roll but my powers are limited :D.

what do you think? crappy?

first, let me thank everyone who helped me pray for my husband when he took the bar exam. sorry i was not able to visit you last month. but i'm back, and i'll make sure to drop by your site.

and here's my entry for this saturday...
my little girl's "ouch" that she got when she was accidentally pushed by her playmate while playing outside our house. good thing this pink band-aid was in my kit to cover the wound after i cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and application of an ointment.
